"total eclipse of the heart"

That song was stuck in my head ALL DAY yesterday. No joke.

You see, yesterday morning at school, we got to see an annular eclipse of the Sun! It was really neat to see and hear the students' reactions. According to wikipedia, this was actually the longest (insert scientific vocabulary here) eclipse of the millenium. Pretty cool!

I know that it's bad to look directly into the sun... but yesterday, I couldn't help it. But I did tell my students that while I didn't encourage them to do it, if they insisted upon it, they couldn't stare at it for TOO long! We also got to look through polarized glasses to see the actual eclipse. It was just like Heroes :)

Unfortunately, I didn't know about the eclipse until I got to school, so I didn't get any photos of my kids looking at it or anything. But it was still a once-in-a-lifetime thing nonetheless. A definite blessing to the end of the school week!!
